What is Caisson Foundation?

Caisson are the structures that made up of wood, steel or reinforced concrete built above the ground level and then sunken into the ground.

Caisson foundation is most often used in the construction of bridge piers & other structures that require foundation beneath rivers & other bodies of water. This is because caissons can be floated to the job site and sunk into place.
There are several types of caisson foundation.

* Floating Caissons
* Open Caissons
* Pneumatic Caissons
* Compressed Air Caissons
* Monolithic Caissons
